The European Pallet Association (Epal) announces that a significant step towards the digitization of the Epal pallet pool has been achieved: Since its introduction in January 2024, 4 million Epal Euro pallets with QR codes have already been produced.

The QR version of the Epal Euro pallet has reached another milestone since its market launch nearly two years ago: with 4 million pallets featuring QR codes, this variant of a load carrier is steadily establishing itself as a central component of modern, digitally connected supply chains—with an upward trend. Each of the newly labeled pallets is equipped with an individual QR code and a serial number. According to Epal, this enables full transparency regarding the location of the pallet and goods in the supply chain, as well as its usage and entire lifecycle. However, the QR code doesn’t exclude the new pallet from the "normal" pallet pool: the Epal Euro pallet QR remains fully compatible with the open pooling system and can be used and exchanged just as flexibly as the classic Epal Euro pallet.

The speed at which the Epal Euro pallet QR has established itself in the market demonstrates the industry's and trade's demand for more transparency, efficiency, and digital networking in pallet logistics.

Michael Brandt, Head of Logistics & Innovation at Epal

According to the open pallet pool Epal, more and more licensees are opting for the production of QR pallets, which represents a "clear signal for the growing awareness and acceptance of the system." This is reflected not only in the strong production growth but also in the increasing availability and demand throughout the entire supply chain.

QR Codes Also for Other Pallet Types

Together with other digital tools from Epal, such as the digital pallet passport or the Epal Pallet App, the Epal Euro pallet can be tracked and recorded throughout the entire supply chain. With a simple scan, users can access details such as the production site, repair history, or sustainability data. However, as significant as the milestone of 4 million QR-code pallets is as a new standard in the digitization of Epal pallets, the organization has already started serializing other pallet types, such as Epal industrial pallets and Epal CP pallets, with QR codes.
